Reading - A Bridge to the Future

bookmark articleprint articleemail article

The Kids for Christ Council is sponsoring a mission to provide books for Libraries of Love. This organization provides books to the children of Uganda. The first Libraries of Love project in 2005 resulted in the creation of the Namirembe Laurel Library which provided 6,750 books and 3 computers to 800 students. To find out more about this great organization, check out their website at www.librariesoflove.org.

We hope you’ll be a part of this wonderful mission opportunity by donating elementary and secondary fiction and non-fiction books. Hardback books are preferred as they have a longer shelf life in harsh conditions. Used books in excellent condition will also be accepted.

Please drop off your items in front of Pod B or in Building 5 across from the elevator on the second floor on Sundays from March 25 to May 1. For more information, please contact Kerstin Joos at 246-8085 or doggonedayz@austin.rr.com.

MISSION STATEMENT of Libraries of Love:
The purpose of Libraries of Love is to partner with Africans to create libraries in individual schools. Through reading, students will develop a love of literature, as well as strengthen their knowledge in each curriculum subject area. Lifelong readers become lifelong learners. Therefore, the libraries will serve as bridges to a better future for the children of Uganda.
2007 GOAL for Libraries of Love:
In the summer of 2007, Libraries of Love plans to create libraries in three Ugandan schools and provide books to two more, including Braille books to 50 blind orphans.
