Supporting Mission and Outreach
It is our intention as a fellowship group to support some of the ministries of First Church. At our last function, we collected items for the Church Under the Bridge (CUB) outreach ministry. For those of you who are not familiar CUB. It is a ministry that helps those in Austin that are without homes.
For those of you that would like to know more about the CUB program, you can visit the following link: Church Under the Bridge.

We're in the process of planning our upcoming events. Got an idea you want to share...e-mail us at sportsmen_info@fumc-rr.org.

Past Activities
Dove Hunt & BBQ
On September 16, 2007 we had a BBQ and Dove Hunt at the 3L&J Ranch in Georgetown Texas. There weren't as many birds as last year, but we still had a great time.
Sporting Clay Pigeon Shoot Benefiting C.U.B.

Our August event was a Sporting Clay Pigeon Shoot and Church under the Bridge (CUB) fundraiser at the Capital City Clays in Austin. Sporting Clays is a form of clay pigeon shooting. Often described as golf with a shotgun, the sport differs from trap and skeet shooting in that It involves shooting clay targets at multiple locations thrown in a great variety of trajectories, angles, speeds, elevations and distances. The original idea behind sporting clays was to create an experience that more closely reflects actual hunting conditions. The shots are intended to simulate hunting for quail, grouse, pheasant, pigeon, or other game. Many courses have traps which throw targets from tall towers simulating high-flying ducks or geese. Some courses have targets that roll and bounce along the ground to simulate rabbits. It is a very entertaining and great warm up for hunting season.  This event was a fundraiser for the Church Under the Bridge program. The men who CUB supports are in desperate need of work boots as many companies will not hire the men without work boots. So, those who do not have boots have a much harder time finding work. The men who attended the Sporting clay event, donated either new or used work boots or cash for the program to purchase some boots to give out. The contributions significantly changed someone's life. We were able to provide 47 pairs of boots to the C.U.B. ministry. Thank you to all those who helped.

In July we went bowling in Round Rock. Thank you Kevin Stuckly for putting it together.

The June activity was Scamble Golf at Star Ranch. We collected numerous items for the CUB ministry at the course. Hope those who attended had a good time. Thank you Larry Tuggle for setting the event up.

The Sportsmen Group watched the Round Rock Express Baseball Game on Thursday, May 24.

Softball ---- Our men's softball team played in the Summer League of the RR Parks & Recreation Dept.

Camping --- On January 26 we had a fishing/campout/BBQ dinner on the banks of the San Gabriel River at the 3L&J Ranch. You can read the archived news article about the event to get more details about this fun event.

Hunting --- the initial event for our new group was a dove hunt and BBQ on Sept 10, 2006. As you can tell from the photo above--- it was a big success.
