“I want to walk as a child of the light…”

This fairly new hymn catches the desire of every true Christian – to walk in the light of God, and shine for the Lord in whatever we do. Jesus invites us to be “the light of the world.” Someone once defined a saint (after seeing images in stained glass windows) as “someone the light shines through.”

To walk as a child of God’s light is to be always prepared for the coming of the Messiah, to watch and wait in readiness, as Jesus counseled. It is to take God’s gifts to us, and be good stewards of the time and talents we are given. And it is to be regularly paying attention to the responsibilities we have toward one another, as members together of God’s family.

The parable of the talents reminds us that it is in using what God has entrusted to us that we find blessing and discover the Kingdom of God. What kind of stewards have we been recently?

HOW HAS GOD BLESSED YOU WITH TALENTS?
HOW HAVE YOU USED THEM FOR CHRIST’S CHURCH?

Prayer: God, let me be a light from you for our world. Let my actions and words bring comfort and wisdom, and may others see Jesus in me. Amen.
